英语作文:Christmas

Christmas is the most important festival in the western world. It falls on December 25th. When my mother and I stayed in America, we were invited by one of my mother's friends to have Christmas with an American family. We bought some presents for our American friends on our way to their house.

They had prepared different kinds of gifts for their family and guests when we got to their house, such as Christmas candles, cakes, cards, little toys, biscuits and so on. A Christmas tree was placed in the comer of the brilliant hall. How beautiful it was! We were impressed by these. We had a big meal. After dinner, they told us some interesting stories about Christmas. We learned that Christmas had something to do with God. We went to bed at midnight. Though we knew the Santa Claus was not true, we were still waiting for the Santa Claus with white beard to bring us presents. And we received many beautiful presents the next morning.

This Christmas was really unforgettable. Not only did I have a good time, but also I knew something about foreign culture.

A Christmas Present英语作文

A perfect present for Christmas

Hicksville is a beautiful, small village on the coast of New Zealand where all the town's people love comics and would prefer to spend all day reading. Fine, probably this only happens in the graphic novel 'Hicksville' by Dylan Horroks but it could be my perfect place to live.

Horrocks has become one of my favorite cartoonists because he loves comics as much as I do, and it is easy to sympathize with his characters. Recently, I also read Sam Zabel and the Magic Pen. It’s amazing. Horrocks can draw using very different styles and is able to draw them all very well. It’s like a great banquet for all the comic book lovers.

In addition it's interesting how Horrocks deals with the women's roles in the world of comics, although he is ambivalent about this stuff. Actually these comics would be a perfect present for Christmas for everybody who likes comics or graphic novels considering that the books are very stimulating because they raise many questions.

英语作文The Christmas Party

It was Christmas Day yesterday. We had a Christmas party at school. Many friends of mine came to the party. After we said“Merry Christmas”, we began to sing Christmas songs, such as Edelweiss, andso on. Then we told some Christmas stories, such as Christmas Father. Then I danced and laughted with my friends. We all had a good time. When the party came to the end,we said “Happy New Year” to each other.

Christmas is one of the most important celebrations of the year for the western countries. It falls on the twenty― fifth of December and has the same importance as Chinese New Year to people with English backgrounds. The celebration is for the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the son of God in Christianity. Now days Christmas is no longer only celebrated by the Christians, but by most people from all over the world.

On the twenty― fourth of December everyone gets excited for it’s the day before Christmas which is called Christmas Eve. The children are usually sent to bed early and are warned that “Santa Claus will only come and give you a present if you be good.” The younger kids actually believe that Santa will come down the chimney on the sleigh that’s pulled by his reindeers. Food like short bread and beer are prepared for Santa when he comes, however most times parents just eat them. Some children put socks and sacks up for the holding of the presents(that their parents put in).

Rise and shine on Christmas morning! The children are always the first ones to wake up,some even do at four. Present wrappers everywhere! They look into their presents with a big smile on their face and oh dear….I hope no one’s disappointed. I feel sorry for anyone that got pink underwear. Children play while dinner is prepared by the adults. The Christmas dinner are usually eaten together by relatives. The tradition of Christmas pudding and roosters are usually eaten with deserts afterwards. The rest of the day is usually games and fun before the good days all come to an end.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

篇8:英语作文:Christmas day

英语作文:Christmas day

Xmas because Roman letter “X” resembles the Greek letter Χ (chi), an abbreviation for Christ .

In Western countries, Christmas has become the most economically significant holiday of the year. The popularity of Christmas can be traced in part to its status as a winter festival. Many cultures have their most important holiday in winter because there is less agricultural work to do at this time. Examples of winter festivals that are believed by some to have influenced Christmas include the pre-Christian festivals of Yule and Saturnalia.

In Western culture, the holiday is characterized by the exchange of gifts among friends and family members, some of the gifts being attributed to Santa Claus (also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, and Father Frost). However, various local and regional Christmas traditions are still practiced, despite the widespread influence of American, British and Australian Christmas motifs disseminated by film, popular literature, television, and other media.

篇9:英语作文:Christmas Is Coming

英语作文:Christmas Is Coming

I like Christmas, it is just like our Spring Festival.

Maybe the Spring Festival is much more important and interesting than Christmas, but I like Christmas Day better. Because we can spend time with our friends and classmates during Christmas. When it is snowy, Christmas becomes much more lovely, just like in fairytales. I can imagine I am in a fairytale, the girl who sold the matches is my friend, the ugly duck becoming more and more beautiful and so on. What a beautiful place! So we can also call Christmas “Snowy Lovely Day.”

On Christmas Day, shops are red and green. There are so many Christmas cards, Christmas hats, Christmas dolls and many colourful things. So shops look very beautiful. We can give a card or a doll to our friends and say “Merry Christmas.” By the way, I think studying can also become much more interesting.

Christmas is coming, it also means a new year will come. Let’s study harder to welcome the new year!

篇10:英语作文:The Christmas Tree

英语作文:The Christmas Tree

Although it is generally agreed that the Christmas tree in its current form came from Germany in the early 19th century, the tradition of decorating a tree to mark winter celebrations dates back hundreds of years to Roman times, when they used to decorate evergreen trees with small pieces of metal to celebrate Saturnalia.

In medieval times the Paradise Play was performed every year on 24 December. This depicted the creation of Man and the fall of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden and always included an evergreen hung with apples which represented the apple tree of temptation.

There is a legend that St Boniface, an English monk, came upon a group of pagans gathered around an oak tree who were preparing to sacrifice a child to the God Thor. In order to stop the sacrifice, and save the childs life, St Boniface is said to have felled the tree with one blow of his fist. Later on, a fir tree grew in place of the oak and this, St Boniface told the pagans, was the Tree of Life and represented the Christ Child.

Legend also suggests that, in the late 16th century, Martin Luther (the founder of the Protestant religion) was the first to decorate an indoor tree with candles when he attempted to recreate the stars shining over a forest of evergreens.

The first mention of decorated trees being taken indoors came in 1605 in Germany - a country with a long Christmas tree history! The trees were initially decorated with fruit and sweets together with hand made objects such as quilled snowflakes and stars. German Christmas Markets began to sell shaped gingerbreads and wax ornaments which people bought as souvenirs of the fair and took home to hang on their tree.

Tinsel was also invented in Germany in about 1610. Up until fairly recently real silver was used, which was pulled into wafer thin strips by special machines. This was durable but tarnished quickly and mmany experiments took place to try and find an alternative - including a mix of lead and tin, which was too heavy and kept breaking. It was only in the mid 20th century that a viable alternative was found.

Artificial trees were invented in the 1880s in a bid to try and stop some of the damage being caused to real trees due to people lopping the tip off large trees, thus preventing the trees from growing any further. It got so bad in Germany that laws had to be brought in to prevent people having more than one tree.

Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, is credited with being responsible for introducing the custom of the Christmas tree to the British public by decorating the first English Christmas tree at Windsor Castle in 1841 using candles, sweets, fruit and gingerbread.

The popularity of the Christmas tree grew in Britain during the first half of the 20th century, with trees becoming bigger and more elaborately decorated with bells, baubles and tinsel. However, the onset of the Second World War resulted in a ban on cutting down trees for decoration and people resorted to having small, artificial tabletop trees bearing home made decorations. These were often taken down into the air raid shelters when the sirens sounded to provide a bit of Christmas cheer!

This all changed following the war, and large trees were erected in many public places to celebrate Christmas. The most famous of these is the tree in Trafalgar Square, London which is an annual gift from the Norwegian government to give thanks for the help they received from Britain during the war.

Today,as soon as school was over,I went home with my classmates.Because today is a beautiful Christmas Eve.As soon as I got home,my father told me to have dinner in the international building today.I jumped three feet with joy.As soon as my mother came home,my father and I took my mother out to dinner.Along the way,I saw smiling faces on the faces of pedestrians tonight, giving people a peaceful and warm feeling. When you get to the gate of the international building, you feel a warm current. The cold wind outside the glass door is biting.Push the door into the warm spring.Santa Claus in the building kept waving to us.The green branches of the Christmas tree are covered with thousands of colorful lights.Blinked his shining eyes.

As soon as I entered the building,I went straight to the second floor. There was a Christmas song in the western restaurant. The song was melodious and made mefeel comfortable. There is a picture of an amiable Santa Claus on the wall.I sat on a table with my father, mother, uncle and aunt.Everyone seemed to be a big family. Before long, those delicious dishes came.At the sight of the delicious duck meat,I couldn't control myself any more and wolfed it down. After I finished eating these delicious food,I and many children ran around the international building,up and down, watching the kind Santa Claus and the colorful Christmas trees.

I love Christmas!

篇17:圣诞节英语作文:Christmas

A friendtold me that Christmaswas coming.

Really,I'm a little surprised. It seems that I don't remember the date for a long time.I only know that after today, tomorrow will arrive.Christmas sounds like a world dressed up with snow. It's really a word that has been far awayfromme.I just remember that on Christmas Eve of one year,my friends and I went crazy friendly. That should be the most worry free day!The mood at that time has been forgotten, and the faces of those people have been blurred.Later, they just sent greeting cards to each other. Now,they don't even bother to sendgreeting cards.

The more people grow up,the more boring they will really be.I feel itfromthe bottom of my heart.

The street has been filled with the smell of Christmas. The picture of Santa Claus is hanging everywhere.Unfortunately, there is no snow.I remember that in those fairy tales, the most fascinating scene is snow.Think about it.In such a small town,Santa won't come either.Because won't he be very busy?I really want to know how he feels when he drives a sleigh and sings when I'm busy.Well,it should be very interesting.

The more lonely people are,the more they like fantasy. They always hope to fill it.

A good friendsaid that this will be the last Christmas she spent with us.Just the words written with a pen make me sad.I hate the plot in the novel taking place in reality.I hate those separations, but why do they happen again and again?Santa Claus,if you can,can you realize my wish and make each other's path clearer, but isn't the reality a big circle of separation and meeting?

How many angels do people meet when they travel around the world?

December 25,Christmas.I'm afraid I'll forget, and I hope I forget. This contradiction makes me at a loss.Today is the winter solstice, with the shortest day and the longest night.I triggered the association of this Christmas in the light of the night.Really,if I forget. So,I wish everyone a happy Christmas first!
